Japanese Drumming Group Spokane Taiko: “Thunderous Entertainment” by the The Inlander
Spokane Taiko is a dynamic drum and percussion ensemble dedicated to empowering individuals and communities through the appreciation of Japanese music traditions. Founded in 1997, we are a non-profit organization that fosters personal improvement in our members through commitment to the four pillars of respect, strength of spirit, strength of body, and technique. We re available for performances and workshops.
You are always welcome to join us on Tuesdays at 5:30 pm at 1428 W. Broadway to try out the drums. See our Facebook page for our current schedule.
Through community performances, we embody the spirit of Taiko as an ancient Japanese art while honoring its vitality as a living artistic expression. At times soulful and languid, often thunderous and electrifying, this extraordinary music never fails to resonate. We are available for hands-on workshops where we show children of all ages how to play the big drums and, depending on time, teach a short song.
Past performances include the Spokane Symphony “M Show”, Spokane Arts Theater Fest, Art Fest, Spokane Folklore Society’s Fall Folk Festival, Spokane County and City Libraries, Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture (MAC), First Interstate Center For The Arts, Valleyfest, South Perry Street Fair, Spokane Buddhist Temple Obon Festival, WSU International Students Graduation, Unity In The Community, Fairchild AFB Pan Asian Celebration, and others.
